Poverty, Inequality and Social Disadvantage

Work in this area is wide-ranging and includes research on social policy in developing countries, issues around poverty and social exclusion,  and on intergenerational mobility and social inequality, which has added a temporal dimension to the study of inequality,

The Institute has an established interest in social policy in developing countries. Our research interests in poverty and social exclusion bridge the global north and south, and prioritise understanding derived from the knowledge of people with direct experience of low income and social exclusion.  Time, geography and societal structures are important factors in shaping spells of hardship.
