Visiting Scholars

The Institute offers an opportunity for academics to spend time interacting with researchers at OISP.  The majority of our visitors are supported from funding bodies and visits have ranged from a few days to a full academic year.

Visitors 2010-11: 

Professor Neil Gilbert (Chemin Professor of Social Welfare, School of Social Welfare, University of California at Berkeley) - April - June 2010. Research interests: Family welfare and poverty; the changing structure of social services in the British welfare state.

Professor Jorge Garces (Director, Polibienestar Reserch Institute, Unviersity of Valencia), July 2010. Research interests: European social policies; Disabilities; Elderly people and chronically ill people.

Professor Estrella Dura Ferrandis (Senior Lecturer, University of Valencia), July 2010. Research interests: European social policies; Chronically ill people.

Dr Teresa Piconto Novales (Senior Lecturer, University of Zaragoza), August 2010. Research interests: Family breakdown; The best interest of the child.

Dr Anna Rotkirch (Special researcher and Head of Family Studies, Population Research Institute, University of Helsinki), Sep 2010 - June 2011. Research interests: Childbearing incentives; Gender, fertility and social policies in Europe.

Professor J P Roos (Professor of Social Policy, University of Helsinki), Oct 2010 - June 2011. Research interests: Generational transfers in the Welfare State; Autobiographies; Evolutionary social science.

Professor Sangeun Lee (Department of Social Welfare, SoongSil University, Seoul), Jan 2011- Jan 2012.  Research interests: Poverty Policy; Old Age Pensions; Program Evaluation; Comparing social welfare systems in UK, USA and Asian countries.

Professor Enrique B Arranz Freijo (University of the Basque Country), April - May 2011. Research interests: Family context and child development; Family intervention; Parenting training.

Professor Lih-Rong Wang (National Taiwan University), August 2011 - June 2012. Research interests: Social policy and social well-being/social quality; Discrimination and diversity; Comparative social policy.
